21 Thoughts on TIFF 2014
- 24 screenings, and I had company for 22 of them…that’s a great week of being social!
- I don’t think I need to set foot in another Starbucks until at least January.
- Never let someone who isn’t into sports talk to you about a sports documentary
- I was told THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY was about butterflies; That’s like saying BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is about kindergarten.
- There should be a disclaimer in the program book noting directors who have just bought a house.
- Never woulda guessed HAEMOO and THE PROPHET would be my most-read posts from the week.
- I’m hard-pressed to remember a year where so few guests showed up for second screenings.
- That said, I’m also still awe-struck that Jermaine Clement came by the Sunday night pub gathering…and stayed so long.
- I doubt anyone high up the chain at TTC reads this space, but if you can avoid a subway closure on the weekend next year that’d be swell. Two TIFF’s in a row are enough.
- For a moment watching Jena Malone skip down the street was a cute sight, then fear crept in as I realized she was skipping with her back to oncoming traffic.
- There’s a weird fatigue that sets in when the best things you see come at the very beginning and very end of your week.
- As much as this experience has become about being wired-in, it’s amazing what can happen and who you see just by keeping your phone in your pocket and your eyes up.
- There’s no way the version of TOP FIVE that played here is getting past the MPAA, and that’s a shame.
- There’s a special circle of hell for people who yell into microphones.
- The highlight of the week remains spending time with Brian, Max, Shannon, Andy, and Sam
- Right this moment I most regret missing CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA, TOKYO TRIBE, CUB, and WILD TALES
- One TIFF first for me – Never once did I go to the wrong theatre by accident.
- After two years in a row of seeing the People’s Choice winner in my slate, I’m back to playing catch-up
- #andrewdamionanddouglasdoTIFF2015 (pass it on)
- Favorites from the week: COMING HOME, TOP FIVE, WHILE WE’RE YOUNG
- Only 363 days until I get to do it all again!
